The event began with an exclusive luncheon hosted by J.P. Morgan, bringing together clients, athletes, and industry leaders for a day of networking and inspiration. The luncheon featured a fireside chat with Joe Tsai, Chairman of Alibaba Group, and Yao Ming, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, moderated by Jintian Jay Li, CEO of the AUBL. Harshika Patel, CEO of J.P. Morgan Private Bank Asia, set the tone by emphasizing the firm’s dedication to empowering clients’ passions and fostering leadership in sports.
The Asian University Basketball League (AUBL) 2025 Championship
The AUBL 2025 Championship made history, drawing 12 elite university teams and over 150 top players from six regions across Asia. National Chengchi University clinched the title, thrilling more than 30,000 live attendees. The event’s global reach was staggering, with 1.55 billion online impressions, 200 million live broadcast views, and coverage from over 2,000 media outlets.
The Binjiang Gymnasium was transformed into Asia’s first 3D virtual basketball court, featuring a 400-square-meter LED display and dynamic lighting, creating an immersive experience for fans and players alike. This technological innovation set a new benchmark for university sports in the region.
J.P. Morgan’s sponsorship was pivotal in elevating the AUBL experience. As a Designated Industry Partner, the firm played a central role in connecting athletes, clients, and business leaders through meaningful dialogue. The VIP luncheon, attended by 120 industry leaders, provided a rare opportunity to hear Joe Tsai and Yao Ming reflect on their journeys as athletes, team owners, and business leaders. Their insights resonated with the audience, highlighting the intersection of sports, leadership, and business.
Harshika Patel reinforced the Bank’s vision: “We believe in empowering the next generation of leaders—on and off the court. The AUBL has created an extraordinary platform that blends competition, culture, and community, and we are honored to support this vision while connecting athletes and industry leaders through meaningful dialogue.”
The AUBL 2025 was not just a regional tournament but a global phenomenon, thanks to the support of sponsors like J.P. Morgan. The league’s success was further amplified by partnerships with other organizations. Beyond the championship, the summer featured an exhibition game in Chongqing, where Team AUBL triumphed over Team Curry Camp in a dramatic finish.
