
Matthew A.Phelps
Matt Phelps is an Executive Director and Market Team Lead in the Chicago office of J.P. Morgan Private Bank. Matt heads an experienced group of Bankers in providing sophisticated wealth management strategies and institutional access to some of the region’s most successful families, entrepreneurs and corporate executives. As a member of the Chicago Leadership Team, he is charged with overseeing J.P. Morgan’s growth and impact throughout the area.
Matt directs a diverse group of Advisors and specialists to deliver strategies that address the unique and often complex objectives of affluent families. His strength lies in fostering an environment of excellence, working to steer his team toward best practices that help clients succeed. Matt himself is a Banker and Advisor, providing guidance to some of the most prominent business owners and executives in the area. He combines his rich financial services background with the vast resources of J.P. Morgan to help clients seamlessly bridge liquidity and cash management needs, navigate the changing tax landscape, craft robust investment portfolios and efficiently plan for generations to come.
Previously, Matt directed a group of advisors and specialists in Tampa as a Team Lead. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan, Matt worked at Goldman Sachs in the Investment Management Division of its Chicago office. There he advised ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices and foundations on optimizing investable assets across market cycles. Previously, he was in corporate banking at MB Financial Bank, where he provided strategic lending and capital markets solutions to select companies in Chicago.
Matt earned an M.B.A. from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and a B.B.A. in Banking and Finance from the University of Georgia. He holds FINRA Series 3, 7, 9, 10 and 66 securities licenses.
Matt and his wife, Kiki, are residents of Lincoln Park, where they enjoy raising their daughter, Juliette, and taking advantage of all the city has to offer. He enjoys volunteering with Uhlich Children's Advantage Network (UCAN) and the local chapter of UGA’s Alumni Association.
