Michael McNinch, CFA®
Michael McNinch is a Managing Director and Market Team Lead in the Grand Rapids office at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. He leads a team of advisors and specialists dedicated to helping clients navigate complexity—whether related to liquidity events, succession planning, or philanthropy—to align their financial decisions with what matters most to them. Together with his team, he leverages the global resources of the firm to help successful individuals and families in Western Michigan lead impactful financial lives.
Michael’s approach is grounded in collaboration and trust, ensuring he builds strong relationships with clients. He takes the time
to understand what truly matters to each client—such as family, legacy, community, philanthropy, or business goals—and tailors strategies to those unique priorities. As a team leader, he models this relationship-driven style across the team to deliver thoughtful, consistent advice and long-term partnership to clients.
With more than 25 years in the investment and financial services industry, Michael has held leadership, fund management, and advisory roles in both public and private markets. His career has taken him from London, where he advised institutional clients across Europe and the Middle East, to entrepreneurial ventures in private equity and investment management, and ultimately to serving clients and leading wealth management teams in Michigan. Most recently, he served as Regional Director at Fifth Third Private Bank, overseeing a large practice serving families across West Michigan.
Michael earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from Wheaton College and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is actively involved in his community, serving on the boards of Broadway Grand Rapids and the World Affairs Council, where he also holds the position of Treasurer. Additionally, he serves on the Boy Scouts West Michigan Leadership Committee and the Young Life Grand Rapids Committee.
Michael grew up in Michigan and, after spending time living and working in other parts of the world, has made it his home for the past 15 years. He lives in Grand Rapids with his wife, Katie. They have two children—one in college and one heading there soon. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, traveling, golfing, and spending quality time with family and friends, especially at the lake.
