
Alonso Garza is a Managing Director and the Market Manager for the Miami office at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. Alonso directs a team of over 110 Bankers, Investment Specialists and other professionals who oversee approximately $42 billion in assets under supervision for some of South Florida’s most prominent individuals and families. He plays an influential role in driving the growth agenda for the market, serving as a gateway to the firm’s capabilities and help clients achieve their goals.
Alonso empowers his team to deliver investment strategies, lending, trust and estate planning, and other sophisticated services. He believes a collaborative approach facilitates success for colleagues and clients alike. He is a member of the Miami Leadership Team, and the face of J.P. Morgan among business leaders and stakeholders in the community.
With a career that began in 1998, Alonso spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs, gaining in-depth market experience in the firm’s FICC EM Sales and Trading Group and Markets Coverage Group. More recently, he was a partner and Head of Funds Management for a fully integrated multifamily real estate firm. Alonso joined J.P. Morgan in 2021 as the Head of Investments for the Miami office, where he focused on portfolio construction, asset allocation, manager selection, and opportunistic trading across both public and private markets. He ascended to his current position in 2024.
Alonso earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. in Finance from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Having founded Junior Achievement’s Monterrey, Mexico, office, he is committed to helping educate and empower the next generation.
Originally from Monterrey, Alonso has pursued a variety of adventures since high school in Colorado Springs. His global perspective is enhanced by the many areas he’s lived in across the United States and his travels around the world. Alonso lives with his wife, daughter, son and beloved dog, Lucy, in Key Biscayne. He is an avid tennis player and thoroughly enjoys reading history books.
