AI tools and your privacy: What you need to know
Easy-to-use artificial intelligence tools may soon change our work and school lives. But they come with a host of new privacy threat…
We work with a variety of clients to help them achieve their unique ambitions.
We work with a variety of clients to help them achieve their unique ambitions.
Our world-class economists, strategists, and investment specialists share their timely ideas and perspectives.
We have worked with clients for more than 200 years to help them achieve their unique ambitions.
KEVIN TOMPKINS: Hi, I'm Kevin Tompkins, an executive director IN cyber advisory. Our practice helps clients better understand their cybersecurity risk and how to better secure themselves. In today's cyber landscape, especially with AI, protecting yourself from threats is more important than ever. In the world of cybersecurity, AI helps attackers move faster, create more convincing messages, find weaknesses more quickly, automating scams, and misusing stolen information to target you.
Here's a common pattern we're seeing. An executive receives a phone call or message that looks like it's from a trusted business partner to complete a payment. The tone is urgent. It contains details about their business arrangement and even references specifics about the executive's personal life. The outreach feels real because of these details, which were pulled from public sources, online websites, and prior data breaches. And with AI, these attacks are launched quickly and are more convincing than ever.
Reducing risk isn't just about locking down everything, it's about shrinking and hardening the footprint that matters most and building simple habits that stop attacks before they happen. Here are a few best practices we share with clients every day. One, pause and verify in another way. If a message or request creates urgency, verify using a trusted method, such as a known callback number or even verifying in person.
Two, protect your accounts with strong controls. Enable two-factor authentication wherever offered. Consider using a password manager, and limit the amount of personal information you share with websites and apps. Three, shrink what's exposed. Delete old accounts. Remove unused apps. Limit what you share publicly, especially on social media, and keep devices and software updated. Less surface area means fewer openings.
Four, treat trusted advisors as part of your footprint. Accountants, assistants, attorneys, and third-party platforms should follow clear procedures for sharing sensitive information, making payments, and account access. And know what to do if something feels off. If you'd like to learn more, your JPMorgan team can share guidance and resources to help protect you, your family, and your business in an AI-enabled world.
