JAIME FREEMAN: I grew up right here on the North Shore, mainly in Glencoe, but also in Winnetka. My mom was a real estate agent who believed in her product, so we moved 12 times within the two towns.
I then ventured a little further abroad for college. I went to Boston and went to Boston College, before returning post-grad to start my career in Chicago, where I started my career in commercial banking and then moved into private banking before coming to JP just about four years ago.
The team was pretty small at the time. We had about eight bankers, and we've been able to grow the team significantly over the last 3 and 1/2 years. We now have 26 bankers. And we spun out and became our own market just about 12 months ago.
It's something we're really proud of here on the North Shore, that we've become our own market, and the firm sees the opportunity on the North Shore. I think the building is just a perfect example of our tangible commitment outside of the growth and the team to the North Shore and to this community.
I love being the market manager on the North Shore because this job is all about relationships. And I believe I have the best team, not only in Chicagoland, but really in the country. I work with great people, and we work with great families. And it's just a privilege to be able to work with these wonderful people and have such an impact every day.
Well, I think my leadership style is really about relationships. At the core of what we do, we need to connect with people. And having the credibility and the deep expertise is table stakes. But we're with our clients through the hardest times, through the best times. And so we need to really be able to build those relationships. And I think that's really where my skill set lies. I build relationships with my team, with the clients we serve, and within the broader community.
I think that's a lot of the power of what we do. I talk to my team a lot about not being too competitive, being collaborative, and it plays out in front of clients. This isn't about being the hero in front of the client. It's about bringing a comprehensive team.
Our bankers are the quarterback. We have so many resources at our disposal, and we have to be really thoughtful about curating those and bringing the right team to the client. So it's at the core of what we do. We have to be collaborative to be successful and to deliver for our clients.
My husband would say, I don't have much spare time. Between working here and two boys with active sports schedules, it is a busy, busy schedule that I have. I'm also privileged to be on two local boards. I'm on the board of Ravinia Festival, as well as the board chair at Writers Theatre. It really is a privilege to be part of two of those organizations that are gems of the North Shore. These are world-class institutions right here in our backyard, and I'm really proud to be part of that fabric of the community.
It's really special to be able to build a career and a life in this area where we grew up in. It's a very special place. And being part of these boards-- being part of the Ravinia board is very meaningful to me. I had my first job ever-- well, with an official paycheck, aside from babysitting-- at Ravinia, working as an usher, making $5.35 an hour. That's minimum wage.
And to be now on the board of directors of this significant institution, it still feels surreal. It's such a privilege. And it makes me excited to come into work every day. It's kind of a dream come true.
In terms of what I want to accomplish on the North Shore with this team is I want to be known as the premier private bank on the North Shore. At times right now, it feels like we're one of the best-kept secrets. And I think, hopefully, with the investment we've made in the building and in the team, that can change thoughtfully over time.
We're going to continue to work with a small number of families and ensure that they're getting the service levels that they deserve, that they need. But we'll continue to grow the team, and that's what I want. I want to be known as the best private bank on the North Shore.
