Text: What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to make their mark in the beauty industry?

(SPEECH)

One of the things, I would say, is that sometimes our biggest insecurity can become our biggest opportunity. That was basically what happened to us.

And I would say that with extraordinary effort comes extraordinary results. So you just got to put in the effort, put in the hours, strive for what you want to, and you'll end up getting exactly where you have to be.

Text: How can young entrepreneurs leverage their unique strengths to drive innovation and growth?

(SPEECH)

So I think that one of our biggest strengths is that we took our insecurities, and we built a company surrounding that. And that makes you being a person in charge of your own story. Many obstacles are going to come in your life, but it is about how you deal with it and how you transform all those obstacles into huge opportunities.

Text: What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs in navigating the challenges of starting and growing a business?

(SPEECH)

I think that a lot has to do with having a big goal. You have a goal. You know where you got to go.

So we have to start with knowing what you're going to sell, or do, or provide. And that's an important thing to work on that, work on the product, work on the service. Have that figured out, and then note what channels and what channels for that specific audience. You have to have consequences between what you've been talking about as an influencer and what that eventually entails as a product.

How do you best work together?

I mean, I think the best way we work together is because we trust each other. I think we try to compliment each other, and we bring different skill sets to the table. But at the end of the day, we have a common goal and a common vision for how we want to show up in the world.

Yeah. And I would add to that, that communication has become really important. So we know each other's character. We know each other's competence. And at the same time, the communication is what allows us to align intention and to really work out all the kinks as we move forward together.

Text: How can emerging leaders leverage their networks to accelerate their worth?

(SPEECH)

As a social entrepreneur, it's really important to leverage different kinds of assets. And I think the connections, the people we know at different institutions, at private sector, any kind of sector really, I think is key to growth. Because if you pull people together, particularly with different visions, different kinds of resources and assets, we can really accelerate growth and in our case, accelerate impact.

And in my case, I like to see my networks more as communities than networks. I think that they're interminable sources of growth, of learning. And like I tell my boys, I don't a whole lot, but I know a lot of people. And that's enormously helpful because that's where you find support, that's where you find growth, and that's where you find camaraderie.

Text: Is there a piece of advice or values that you've learned from your family and implemented in your business?

(SPEECH)

So my advice would be to stay curious, and don't be afraid to break things. I think that curiosity is really the fountainhead of evolution, of personal growth.

And I think that curiosity also breeds just a bit of humility. And I think it's important because you have to keep your wits about you. We have a certain number of years on this Earth. And in the meantime, it's just a huge opportunity to grow and hopefully to contribute.

Yeah. And I'll say two-- I think two different things stand out for me. I think one is we were raised in our house and in our family just to that everybody is born with the same potential doesn't necessarily have the opportunity. Our conditions are pretty arbitrary. You're born into circumstance. So understanding that, I think, helps drive the decisions and the way we live.

Text: What made you want to share your story with the Emerging Family Leaders audience?

(SPEECH)

There's so many opportunities for us to do so many different things. And I think there's a breadth of opportunity. There's a breadth of experience in this room. And we want to be a part of, not just learning, everything that we're hearing from the speakers, and making sure that we can continue to do what we want to do, and show up with the different organizations, the different kind of work we do.

And in our case, Glasswing, the organization that we're running. But also, I think just pulling and thinking about those networks and how we can collectively improve conditions in our countries in Latin America. Because there is a huge opportunity in this room, in this space, at this event, to not only generate more wealth and productivity, but also generate much more impact and really push for our countries develop wholly and exclusively.

And so I've had the privilege of listening to so many people and working alongside so many people, among them Selena, that helped me recalibrate my sense of what's possible. And so my aspiration at the Emerging Leaders is hopefully, we can do a little bit of that. And it doesn't have to be magnanimous. Hopefully, we can be just a little bit contagious. And let's do what we think is right, and what we think is proper, and what we think is best, and have fun while we're at it.

And unlock the incredible potential of Latin America. I mean, really, there's just a ton of potential. We just need to provide opportunities and create conditions so people can navigate the adversity and the challenges and really thrive collectively.

Text: Your family business has been around since 1896. How do you continue to innovate and grow while maintaining the traditions and values of your family?

(SPEECH)

So I think that innovation is, again, spurred by curiosity. I think that the world obligates us to innovate all the time. Because we have to be reinventing ourselves. I see that values as such, I think is something in our case, maybe not so much to be spoken about, but rather to be practiced.

Let's not fall in love with solutions. Let's fall in love with problems. Because those problems typically stay longer than solutions do, especially nowadays. And so as we focus on that problem, the solution might be one today, another tomorrow. And innovation and breaking things is actually a fundamental part of subsistence.

Text: As a social entrepreneur, what inspires you?

(SPEECH)

I mean, as a social entrepreneur, I think, again, it resonates with what Diego said. I think there's so much about social entrepreneurship that is problem solving, and there's so many opportunities to ask people and to meet people where they're at.

And I think as a social entrepreneur, we think of the communities and people we work with in education systems and health systems and with economic opportunity. We think of them as partners and clients, so to speak. What is it, what result, and what are people looking for? What do people consider to be their priorities?

And you really go move in that direction. We're trying to develop human beings, like citizens that are engaged. And so we just want to do that together, but with a mentality, again, of transparency, of efficiency, and putting values in action over politics or partisan. It's really just how do we improve the world together? Because at the end of the day, it's something that's going to benefit, people and planet.

How are you seeking to transform education?

Vibra en Alta is born under J. Balvin's mission to uplift individuals so they can resonate with who they are. This means that education has to be a platform that helps people identify their passions, their talents, their interests. And education has to offer the paths and opportunities for them to explore careers that align with their interests with grantmaker organizations in Colombia that are somehow helping people to improve their social emotional learning, mentoring them to higher education, or helping them not to drop out from high school.

Text: Where do you see the parallels between music and education?

When we started Vibra en Alta, I tried to ask Jose, J. Balvin, about his experience with education. 25 years ago, when he felt he wanted to be an artist, when he felt music was his passion, what made him resonate with, he didn't found that opportunity in school. The schools were meant for people to do other stuff. Being a musician in Medellín in the late '90s, there wasn't an opportunity or a place you could learn from in school. And he made it. He made it. He made his career. He was able to find other opportunities to learn and to form.

But what we've reflected about in Vibra en Alta and what I think connects music to education is that education has to be flexible enough to let every individual find their path and build their career and their future.

No matter if they want to be an artist, if they want to be a lawyer, if they want to be a physician, an engineer, a hairstylist, education has to be a platform as broad and as important to help every person thrive and to uplift everyone so they can resonate with who they are.

Text: What advice would you give to the next generation on how to find their passion?

So what we found in Vibra en Alta and what we've learned is that passion is almost always inside us. It's hard for us to put it into words. It's hard for us to see it. It's in those specific moments where we've felt we've thrived.

It's in those specific moments where we felt we've had difficulties, where our passion is trying to speak to us. The hard part of passion is that passion is in the side of the brain where emotions are. But language is in the other side of the brain, so it's hard to connect them.

I invite everyone to bring their spaces of reflection, of conversation, of writing or talking to each other and try to identify those moments in life where you thrived or where you struggle and try to identify what your body was telling to you, what your mind was telling to you because probably passion was trying to give you something.
